Now, with the postseason over, MLB is set to begin releasing their awards. I will go over some of the awards that we could see Giants players receiving. *Note, not counting the Hank Aaron Award or the Comeback Player of the Year Awards that Posey has already received.
- Buster Posey Silver Slugger
The Silver Slugger Award is annually handed out to the best hitter at each position. As far as catchers are concerned, this is a no-brainer.
There seems to be little doubt that Buster will be named the National League's most valuable player. Not only did he have a huge offensive year but he was the second best defensive catcher in baseball this year. Although Ryan Braun had another incredible year, the voters will not give it to him because of last year's PED scandal. This is unjust however because his suspension was over-turned and he put up better numbers this year with no mention of PEDs. However, the fact that the Giants won their division and Braun could not get the Brewers into the postseason does mean that Posey should win the award anyway.
- Matt Cain Cy Young Nominee
Although Cain likely won't win this year's Cy Young, he will probably finish up there in votes after a career year. I just thought that was at least worth a mention here.
