Early Thoughts on the World Series

Well, fresh off an awesome performance in game 7, the Giants have a quick turnaround to start the world series Wednesday. It won't be an easy start either, going against the best pitcher in the game Justin Verlander with Barry Zito. The Tigers are a team I really respect but I really can't convince myself that they are better than the Reds. Verlander will be big in this series and game one would be huge if we can win it. I don't say this much, about any home team, but if the Giants win game one they steal a Tiger win.

Verlander will start games 1 and 5 and you gotta think that the Giants have to beat him once. Game one could be the best shot because the Giants have won three games since the last time the Tigers played. However, it should be pointed out that Verlander is not on extra rest so he should be ready to go. Let's hope that the lay off, along with the offspead stuff of Zito, can affect the timing of their hitters. The key, as I mentioned before, will be getting into their pen and Verlander starts will be even more important.

I keep saying this, because I believe it, but I think that game one could be a great shot to see our MVPosey break out of his NLCS long slump. Verlander loves to come at you with a blazing fastball and Posey can hit anybody's fastball (ask Aroldis Chapman or Steven Strasburg). We really need him to bust out and hurt Verlander with a big hit with a guy or two on. This could also be the type of matchup that turns Pence around as well, although he did bust out some with three hits last night. A good fastball seems to be what Pence misses after the Cards hammered him with off speed stuff. If we don't get something more from one or both of these guys it will take another amazing performance for Zito to out pitch Verlander. Hell, anyway it goes, I can't wait. Let's go Giants!
